"How did you two meet?" is a question we got a lot and one that we usually struggle to answer. Maddy and I met in middle school (I was in the 7th grade, she was in the 6th) and ran in connected circles until I graduated high school and moved to D.C. Through our high school years, we were friends but never dated. Maddy went to MTSU after graduating SMMHS and I ended up at Navy. In God's kindness, Maddy graduated MTSU (very) early and began grad school at American University while I was beginning my senior year of college in Annapolis. I asked to hang out in August, we started dating in October, and three years and nine days later, we are getting married!

What do you get when you mix an event planner and someone who hates parties? A lot of (good) stress! I knew I wanted to surprise Maddy with our proposal, but quickly ran into a few issues: I live 5 hours away from Maddy, I am bad at keeping secrets, and I am worse at planning events. Thankfully, with the help many friends and family members, I secretly drove to DC while Maddy was having a 'girls day' (coffee, nails, an unrelated clothing swap that she really wanted to go to), and surprised her at one of our favorite places, the National Arboretum. After we saw eachother, both of us pretty much blacked out, but I do know that she said yes. Thankfully, our good friend Lauren took plenty of pictures to fill in the gaps in our memories.
